A new approach for fast estimation of the solar energy potential in urban environments

TU Delft researchers have developed a new approach for quickly and accurately calculating the solar energy potential of surfaces in the urban environment. Via the new approach, architects and urban planners can more easily incorporate photovoltaic technology in their designs. The findings were presented on Monday 4 February in Nature Energy.  Buildings, trees and other structures in urban areas cause shading of solar modules, which strongly affects the performance of a PV system.
