Web Privacy Policy

At HackensackUMC, we are committed to using all reasonable efforts to protect the privacy and security of the users of our site. HackensackUMC understands that health is a very personal, private subject. This Web Privacy Policy will tell you what information we collect, how it is used, and what your choices are. Please read this policy carefully. Changes will be posted here so please refer to this policy regularly. This Web Privacy Policy is in addition to the Hospital’s Notice of Privacy Practices (see #7 below).

1.         Information You Provide

      You may use most of the HackensackUMC site without providing any personal information, except as explained below.

      Sometimes we need information to provide services that you request.  For example, you may be asked to provide personal information, such as demographic information, if you choose to complete any of the on-line forms used for class registration, special events and promotions, appointment requests, and to provide feedback.   Additional questions may be included to help us improve the services we offer.  Only designated staff at or working for HackensackUMC will have access on a need to know basis to the information you provide.

      Please do not provide personal information via email to the hospital unless it is through a secure channel (these will be marked, as secure on-line forms, for example). Remember that e-mail messages, while in transit, can be viewed by other Internet users. If you have individualized information to communicate, please use the appropriate secure on-line form or contact the necessary party using traditional means such as phone or mail.  You should never send requests for information about a medical condition by way of email.

      If you wish to subscribe to any of our E-Newsletters, you should be aware that we will collect and store your first and last name and your email address. This information is used for distribution purposes. You can unsubscribe to the e-newsletter at any time by Clicking here.  As explained below (see #3), we also collect and log the IP address (an identification number associated with your computer) when you visit the hospital’s web site.

No data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.  For this reason, HackensackUMC cannot ensure the security of any information (including personal, confidential or privileged information) you transmit to us or any information provided online, and you do so at your own risk. HackensackUMC will not be liable for disclosures of your personal information due to errors in transmission or unauthorized acts of third parties. However, once we receive your transmission, we do our best to ensure its security on our systems by making reasonable efforts to protect the information.

 

2.         "Cookies" and IP addresses

Cookies are data that some web sites store on your computer's hard drive when you visit those websites.   Like many websites, the HackensackUMC website uses this cookie data, in aggregate form, to provide us with information about traffic to our site. Not all versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer have 128-bit encryption capability; you will have to download the upgrade that  level of encryption.
