Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the buildup of extra fat in liver cells that is not caused by alcohol consumption. It is normal for the liver to contain some fat, however, if more than 5%-10% of the liver’s weight is fat, then it is called a fatty liver (Steatosis). The simple fatty liver can be a completely benign condition and usually does not lead to liver damage. However, once there is a build-up of fat, the liver becomes vulnerable to further injury, which may result in inflammation and scarring of the organ.  Read more...
