British rivers may contain enough cocaine to intoxicate eels

The concentration of cocaine in some British rivers may be high enough to make eels hyperactive and to derail their reproductive cycles, a study suggests.  Laboratory tests in Italy found that when European eels were exposed even to vanishingly small levels of the drug in their water tanks their metabolisms went into overdrive and their muscles wasted away.  Read more...
