Charles Osgood, anchor of “CBS News Sunday Morning,” and anchor and writer of “The Osgood File,” his daily news commentary broadcast on the CBS Radio Network, has been named National Honorary Chairperson of the “A Beat Beyond” campaign for the Heart & Vascular Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center.

“We are honored to have someone as highly regarded, respected, and revered as Mr. Osgood chair our ‘A Beat Beyond’ campaign for the Heart & Vascular Hospital,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of Hackensack University Medical Center.  “For such an important and ultimately life-saving initiative, it is a perfect fit with Mr. Osgood’s character and success.  I’m sure it will be yet another achievement of his on what is already a very long list.”

“A Beat Beyond” is a campaign of extraordinary effort to create a world-class, pacesetting home for advanced cardiac care at Hackensack University Medical Center’s Heart & Vascular Hospital.

“Mr. Osgood is a broadcast media legend, and his philanthropic efforts on behalf of Hackensack University Medical Center will be tremendously helpful,” said Joseph Simunovich, chairman of the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees.  “We are quite appreciative of his willingness to dedicate the time and energy necessary to chair the ‘Beat Beyond’ campaign.”

“When we announced the successful, recently completed $60 million ‘Beyond Extraordinary’ campaign benefitting the John Theurer Cancer Center, we already knew our next campaign would be for the Heart & Vascular Hospital.  We had a goal of creating a parallel effort and synergizing ‘Beyond Extraordinary’ with the new campaign, and thus, ‘A Beat Beyond,’ was born,” said Robert L. Torre, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation.  “Furthermore, Mary Higgins Clark, a well-known mystery novelist, member of the Hackensack University Medical Center Board of Governors, national honorary chairperson for the ‘Beyond Extraordinary’ campaign, and close friend to Mr. Osgood, has passed the mantle to him knowing he will take the ‘A Beat Beyond’ campaign to equally remarkable heights.”

Mr. Osgood was introduced to Mr. Garrett, and the Heart & Vascular Hospital Advisory Committee, chaired by William J. Murray, member of the Hackensack University Medical Center Board of Governors and the Foundation Board of Trustees, by Gregory Simonian, M.D., chairman of the Medical Executive Committee and chief of Endovascular Surgery.
