EPA to Weaken Safeguards of Pesticide Linked to Birth Defects, Cancer

The Trump administration announced in a document posted Thursday that it plans to weaken environmental safeguards for atrazine, a weedkilling pesticide linked to birth defects and cancer in humans. The change will increase by 50 percent the amount of atrazine allowed in U.S. waterways. Atrazine, the nation’s second most-used pesticide after glyphosate, is banned in Europe but widely present in U.S. waterways and drinking-water supplies.
