Five HackensackUMC Staff Members Honored at NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes Award Program

Five members from Hackensack University Medical Center were honored as finalists at the NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes award breakfast, which took place at The Palace at Somerset Park on Tuesday, June 19.

Five members from Hackensack University Medical Center were honored as finalists at the NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes award breakfast, which took place at The Palace at Somerset Park on Tuesday, June 19.
“I am privileged to work with some of the best of the best in this business,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of HackensackUMC. “Everyone has contributed to the success of this medical center, and I am glad to see some of our everyday HackensackUMC heroes being recognized by NJBIZ for their commitment to excellence in healthcare.”
The finalists were as follows: Katherine DeMarco, R.N., Pain & Palliative Medicine – Nurse Hero; Deirdre Imus, president and founder of The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center™ at HackensackUMC – Education Hero; Herman Morchel, M.D., Department of Emergency Medicine - Innovation Hero; Ellen Smith – Volunteer Hero; and Lisa Tank, M.D., chief of Geriatric Medicine – Physician Hero.
The Healthcare Heroes awards program honors individuals and organizations making a significant impact on the quality of healthcare in New Jersey. Finalists were selected in eleven categories: Corporate Achievement, Education Hero-Individual, Education Hero-Organization, Hospital of the Year, Innovation Hero-Individual, Innovation Hero-Organization, Nurse of the Year, Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facility of the Year, Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Center of the Year, Physician of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.
