Food supply in danger? Beekeepers lost 40% of honey bee colonies in a year

The Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) annual Honey Bee Colonies report has detailed a decline in honey bee populations following the recent budget cuts by the Trump Administration. A nationwide survey led by the University of Maryland’s non-profit organization Bee Informed Partnership shows that beekeepers lost 40.7 percent of their honey bee colonies in just one year — from April 2018 to April 2019. Researchers caution that this trend could soon affect food crops because these pollinating insects assume a critical job in the fertilization of plants.  Read more....
