Greening The Cleaning

AT & T Facility Adopts Greening the Cleaning® Program

The AT&T Kemble Plaza 1 facility at 340 Mount Kemble Avenue in Morristown, New Jersey has fully implemented the environmentally friendly "Greening the Cleaning®" program developed by The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center ™ at Hackensack University Medical Center.

This program, which replaces toxic cleaning chemicals with safer, non-toxic products made of organic, readily biodegradable ingredients, is designed to create healthier indoor environments.

Mike Marion, the Corporate Sponsorship Director at AT&T, initiated the move toward "greening" the facility. "I heard about the program and was interested in learning more," he said. "Once George Schmitt, regional facility manager, The Gale Company, and our Global Real Estate team were presented with the facts, it became a pretty easy decision. It's a classic 'win-win' for employees and the environment and we're pleased to support the good work of Deirdre Imus' team in this important area."

TMC Services Area Manager Alan Yanowitz worked closely with Hackensack University Medical Center employees to learn how to train TMC Services personnel in the proper usage of the new products. According to Mr. Yanowitz, the transition went smoothly. "Our employees adjusted to the new cleaning products very quickly. It's actually not a drastic change since the cleaners are used in nearly the same ways. Plus, the employees seem a lot happier knowing that their work surroundings are healthier," he said.

"I am so pleased that AT&T has joined our "Greening the Cleaning®" program," says Deirdre Imus, wife of nationally syndicated radio personality Don Imus. "Each time a company takes part in this, it's a victory for our children and all future generations who will be able to enjoy living in a less toxic world. It's such a thrill to see this project moving forward so successfully."

Now that AT&T's Kemble Plaza I facility, a 400,000-square-foot complex, has been completely "greened", the company is looking toward "greening" its second Morristown facility, Kemble Plaza II, beginning July 1.
