Ms. Imus is President and founder of the Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center® at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation in Hackensack, N.J. Recent efforts by the Environmental Center have ushered in “Green Cleaning” executive orders from the governors of three states, as well as related legislation.

The mission of the Environmental Center is to identify, control and ultimately prevent toxic exposures in the environment that threaten our children's health. The Center developed the award-winning Greening The Cleaning® program at HUMC in 2001. The success of the institutional line prompted a household line of Greening The Cleaning® products last year.

100% of all profits from the book and the household line of Greening The Cleaning® products go to the Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer, a 501(c)(3) not for profit dedicated to children. 100% of all profits from our institutional line of Greening The Cleaning® products go to the Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center® for supporting the GTC Greening The Cleaning® program in addition to funding education and research to identify, control and ultimately prevent toxic exposures in the environment that threaten our children's health.

Greening The Cleaning® means eliminating to the greatest extent possible, all cleaning agents containing hazardous ingredients and replacing them with naturally-derived ingredients with the least level of toxicity.

Clean and Green

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, traditional cleaning products can contain harmful chemicals that can cause cancer, reproductive disorders, major organ damage, and permanent eye damage. Other common health problems associated with cleaning chemicals include asthma and other respiratory ailments, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue.

“We all grew up thinking chemical smells like bleach and ammonia signaled ‘clean,’ Ms. Imus said. “But we all need to know what’s under our kitchen sink. We don’t need cleaning agents which can potentially harm our children and the environment – especially when environmentally-responsible products can be as effective as, and often cheaper, than traditional cleaners.”

To raise awareness about how easy it is to start greening, Ms. Imus is slated to appear on “The Today Show,” April 6; “The View,” April 16; and “Martha,” April 17. She will also be featured in multiple marquee magazines including Prevention, InStyle, Town & Country, and New Jersey Life. Her book signing appearances include Bookends (Ridgewood, N.J.) April 18, RJ Julia (Madison, CT) April 21, Just Books (Greenwich, CT) April 24, and the Westport Library (CT), April 26.

Also on the schedule, Ms. Imus will join husband Don Imus on the nationally syndicated WFAN Radiothon, broadcasting from the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square (1501 Broadway, NYC), April 12-13. All proceeds from the event benefit Tomorrows Children's Fund, the CJ Foundation for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and The Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer.

Ms. Imus is also co-founder and co-director, with husband Don Imus, of The Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer, a 4,000 acre working cattle ranch in northern New Mexico which provides the experience of the American cowboy to children suffering from cancer and various blood diseases, and to children who have lost a brother or sister to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). More than 700 children have experienced the program since the ranch was founded in 1998.

Green This! – Greening Your Cleaning is Ms. Imus’ second book. She is also the author of the best-selling cookbook, The Imus Ranch: Cooking For Kids and Cowboys.

Retail Greening The Cleaning® products are available through leading stores and supermarkets and through www.imusranchfoods.com. The institutional line is available by contacting The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center.

Unlike other cleaners, purchases of Greening the Cleaning® products support an important cause. For the retail line, 100% of after tax profits go to The Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer. For the institutional line, 100% of all profits go to the Center for supporting the GTC Greening The Cleaning® program in addition to funding education and research to identify, control and ultimately prevent  toxic exposures in the environment that threaten our children's health.
