Girl Planting seeds
newsletter1_5_holidayWelcome to the fifth edition of our Greening Your Life newsletter.
Thank you from all of us for making 2006 our best year yet.  So many of you have supported the Center, whether it was spreading the word about Greening the Cleaning® or calling your legislators about important children’s health issues. Our Center’s success is the efforts of many.
This year, we’ve launched our Greening the Cleaning® retail line that is now in thousands of stores nationwide, and expanded our institutional program with dozens of new clients.  The success of this program means more than just a change in cleaning products.  It means changing the way we think about chemicals, and their impact on our health and waste stream, and how this affects everyone.  We’ve increased Greening the Cleaning® speaking engagements at schools, municipalities, hospitals and businesses.  Our retail laundry detergent will hit store shelves in early 2007, with hand dish soap to follow.  Thanks to all of you for your phone calls and emails expressing support for this program.
The Center has also advocated for landmark legislation, such as the Combatting Autism Act that passed unanimously in the Senate.  We’ve supported the efforts of more states in creating green cleaning legislation, especially for schools, and pushed for the continuation of the National Children’s Study.  We’ve launched our own research study on safe, non-toxic children’s head lice treatments, and engaged school nurses in New Jersey and New York in this effort.
The Center has stepped up educational programs with an enhanced website featuring more research and resources for you to access.  We’ve created an educational booklet for new parents who come to the hospital’s new, environmentally-responsible Sarkis and Siran Gabrellian Women’s and Children’s Pavilion.  And we’ve begun work on a new cancer center here at HUMC that will go above and beyond what the Pavilion was able to achieve.
It is our wish - and our mission - this season and always, to help you achieve a healthier, cleaner environment.  We thank you for the gift of your support, which allows us to continue this critical work.  This season we’re introducing an opportunity to give to the Center in the name of a family member or friend.  Check out other sustainable gift-giving ideas in our “Did You Know?” article, and most of all, enjoy a wonderful holiday.
Our best to you this season and always,
Deirdre Imus
