Autism: Environment Matters
For winemakers, it is widely accepted that it’s the “terroir” – literally, the ground but more figuratively, the overall environment - that matters. In medicine, even Louis Pasteur supposedly admitted on his deathbed (in French of course), “Bernard was right; the Terrain is everything, the Germ is nothing.” (Source) The reference? Claude Bernard, a 19th century French physiologist, believed that the host’s environment was just as important to the development of disease as the invading germs. (Source) These debates about the cause of illness still rage today. Most notably, the causes of autism remain as hotly contested as they are poorly understood. Read more

Why Do 32 Million U.S Children Have Some Form of Chronic Illness?
“Was this always the case?” you might ask. The answer is an emphatic no! Better diagnosis can certainly account for some of the increase, and we know genetics plays a role. However, as a 34 year veteran of the nursing profession, I believe a good deal of blame should be placed on the increase in the production and use of chemicals (87, 000 in our air, water and food) , poor nutrition (Americans spend 90% of their food budget on processed foods) and an outlandish number of vaccines (36-45 now given before the age of five).
