Simple Steps You Can Take to Combat the Spread of Flu in Your Facility

shutterstock_106241129According to the CDC, the flu virus can “live” on some surfaces for up to 48 hours.  Routine, proper and thorough cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces may help reduce the spread of flu.

Below are steps you can take to combat the spread of flu in your facility.

1.  Always follow cleaning procedures, be thorough. 

2.  Use EPA registered disinfectants.

3.  Be sure to follow label instructions to allow for the appropriate dwell time.

4.  Concentrate on high touch areas, making sure you the clean the area before disinfecting.

  • Doorknobs
  • Handles
  • Light Switches
  • Desktops
  • Elevator Buttons
  • Keyboards
  • Telephone Receivers
  • Cell phones --  NEVER take a cell phone in the bathroom with you! They can become contaminated with E. coli bacteria. fecal bacteria and viruses like the flu.

5.  Stay home if you are sick to reduce the spread of germs in your facility.

6.  Always cover your cough or sneeze.

7.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

8.  Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Washing your hands with soap and water is the best way to prevent the spread of germs.
