HackensackUMC Corner Shops Issue Call for Volunteers
April 3, 2012 10:54 AM
Volunteers are greatly needed to work at the gift shops, known as the Corner Shops at HackensackUMC. The Corner Shops are sponsored by the Auxiliary of Hackensack University Medical Center and are an integral part of the HackensackUMC Foundation and its mission.
The shops are experiencing tremendous growth and the latest addition, the Dr. Earl and Ingrid Doyne Corner Shop, will serve the needs of the John Theurer Cancer Center when it opens this June.
“One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Corner Shops directly benefit the medical center,” said Robert L. Torre, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the HackensackUMC Foundation. “The Auxiliary is an outstanding resource and recently completed a $2.5 million pledge to fund the Pediatric Emergency Room in the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital. The courteous and hardworking Corner Shops volunteers enable the Auxiliary to be successful and we look forward to working with additional volunteers as our network of gift shops grows.”
The Auxiliary’s generosity is legendary, including raising funds to renovate the Banta Lobby in the Link Pavilion of HackensackUMC, and purchasing a jitney bus and a paramedic vehicle. The Auxiliary’s latest endeavors include another $2.5 million pledge to the Heart and Vascular Hospital’s “A Beat Beyond” campaign and to the John Theurer Cancer Center. In addition to the volunteers needed to staff the Dr. Earl and Ingrid Doyne Corner Shop, there are openings for volunteers in all locations with various shifts available.
The Corner Shop in the Banta Lobby of the main hospital offers a wide assortment of tempting treats, sundries, reading material and seasonal as well as everyday gifts. The Children’s Gift Shop, located in the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, is a virtual menagerie of stuffed animals, toys, games and books - just what the doctor ordered to keep the youngest patients entertained and comforted during their stay.
The Sandra Kissler Gift Shop in the Donna A. Sanzari Women’s Hospital offers reading materials and items for new mothers and their babies. At the John Theurer Cancer Center, the Dr. Earl and Ingrid Doyne Corner Shop will offer a wide variety of special care items, as well as an assortment of treats, sundries, reading material and gifts.
Volunteer opportunities at the Corner Shops require a commitment of at least one, four-hour shift per week. For more information, please contact Camilia Mgerack at 201-996-2081 or via email at cmgerack@HackensackUMC.org.
