Hackensack University Medical Center recently presented its first two DAISY Awards for Extraordinary Nurses. The winners are: Fiona Stephan, RN, nurse manager of Ambulatory Surgery at HackensackUMC and Keri Cebulash, RN of the Colon Cancer Prevention Center at HackensackUMC. Both women were recognized at a public ceremony in their units and received a certificate, a DAISY award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled, “A Healer’s Touch.”
“Fiona and Keri are both outstanding role models in the nursing community and deserving of the DAISY Award,” said Dianne A.M. Aroh, RN, MS, NEA-BC, executive vice president, chief nursing and patient care officer, HackensackUMC. “In the first month, HackensackUMC received 110 nominations from patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and employees who praised our nurses for their hard work. Fiona and Keri ultimately won because they consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. They are advocates not only for patients, but their colleagues as well.”
The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the DAISY Foundation by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of the auto immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP). The Barnes Family was impressed by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick. As a result, the family created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones.
HackensackUMC is proud to be a DAISY Award partner, recognizing our nurses every month with this special honor.
