HackensackUMC received a generous donation of $35,000 from Skanska USA, of the New York Metro Region.  This contribution represents the proceeds from the second annual Dan Wurzburg Memorial Golf Outing sponsored by Skanska’s Superintendents.  Mr. Wurzburg, who passed away in January of 2011, was an employee of Skanska for 19 years and a patient of David Siegel, M.D., chief of the Division of Multiple Myeloma, John Theurer Cancer Center at HackensackUMC.   The proceeds will benefit the Multiple Myeloma Fund through the HackensackUMC Foundation.

“This generous donation by Skanska USA will be used to help fund important multiple myeloma research,” said Dr. Siegel.  “While this disease cannot be cured, new treatments continue to be evaluated in research studies, helping many people to live longer, healthier lives. I applaud the efforts of Tom, Lloyd, Andy, and Dan’s wife, Susan, who continue to support the Multiple Myeloma Fund at HackensackUMC.”

The second annual Dan Wurzburg Memorial Golf Outing was held in September at the Great Gorge Country Club in Vernon.  More than 180 golfers, including colleagues of Dan and subcontractors of Skanska USA participated.

The John Theurer Cancer Center’s Multiple Myeloma Division is one of only a few facilities in the United States that offers expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of multiple myeloma, the second most common blood cancer. The division is also one of 13 academic institutions that comprise the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC), a unique research model to accelerate the development of novel multiple myeloma treatments by catalyzing, promoting and facilitating collaborative research between industry and academia.
