Hackensack University Medical Center is proud to announce that it has received the highest-possible safety score, an “A” grade, from The Leapfrog Group’s inaugural Hospital Safety Score initiative.

“We are honored to receive this A grade safety score from The Leapfrog Group,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of HackensackUMC. “We have worked hard to build a culture of innovation and creativity while providing the highest level of clinical care possible, and being recognized for our patient safety and quality is a rewarding reflection of our work. I would like to thank The Leapfrog Group for their continued commitment to healthcare excellence, as well as the entire team at HackensackUMC for their dedication to our patients.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national non-profit organization of employers and other purchasers of healthcare committed to encouraging safer, higher-quality healthcare. They recently launched the Hospital Safety Score initiative as a way to publicly report on patient safety in national hospitals. The Leapfrog Group surveyed more than 2,600 general hospitals, and based their scoring system on 26 evidence-based national measures of hospital safety. Safety scores were then calculated under the guidance of a nine-member Leapfrog Blue Ribbon Expert Panel on the Hospital Safety Score, comprised of patient safety experts from across the country.

HackensackUMC is one of four New Jersey hospitals to attain an A grade from The Leapfrog Group and the medical center would like to congratulate them as well: University Medical Center at Princeton, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, and The Valley Hospital.
