HackensackUMC Welcomes Dr. Shafiq Rab as its New Chief Information Officer

Hackensack University Medical Center is proud to welcome Dr. Shafiq Rab, of Skillman, N.J., as its newchief information officer.
“I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Shafiq Rab to the HackensackUMC team,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of HackensackUMC. “His extensive professional experience combined with his unique medical background will undoubtedly serve as a great asset to our medical center.”
Dr. Rab joins the medical center from Greater Hudson Valley Health System in New York, where he was vice president and chief information officer since 2008. While at Greater Hudson Valley Health System, he was responsible for enterprise-wide information technology and communication related leadership including strategic vision and planning. During his tenure, he led the system’s successful implementation of EPIC, an electronic medical records software.
Prior to his time at Greater Hudson Valley Health System, Dr. Rab was vice president and chief information officer at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, N.J., and chief information officer/director of Information Technology/information security officer at Carrier Clinic, East Mountain Hospital in Belle Mead, N.J.
Dr. Rab’s experience is unique in that he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) degree from Dow Medical College in Pakistan, and completed his internship while also in Pakistan. Thereafter, he began to transition his position toward the field of information technology within the healthcare realm.
