Hackensack University Medical Center is pleased to announce that Liam Alexander Schleppy was born at 11 p.m. on Monday, October 29, NOT in Hackensack but in Hillsborough, NJ.

HackensackUMC’s Mobile Satellite Emergency Department (MSED) vehicles and healthcare team were deployed to Hillsborough earlier in the day. The team was charged with providing emergency healthcare to surrounding low-lying communities.  Thank goodness they were there! Just ask the Schleppy Family!

Hurricane Sandy was well underway when Christine Schleppy went into early labor. Her husband, David,  immediately called 911 for help. An ambulance was dispatched to their Stillman home. The EMTs tried to navigate their way to get the Schleppy family to a hospital in Princeton.  It was impossible due to road closures and flooding. Princeton was out of the question.  Besides, Liam was getting ready to make his entrance. They went to Hillsborough instead.

Dr. Herman Morchel and the MSED team delivered a healthy 5lbs, 2oz, baby boy.  They have since been transported to Somerset Hospital and both mom and baby are doing well.
