Dr.Babak Litkouhi, Co-Chief, Gynecologic Oncology, will Teach Women About Risk Factors for Gynecological Cancers

Hackensack NJ – (January 20, 2012) – Each month, the Maureen Fund for Ovarian Cancer, a cancer outreach and educational program of the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, will host a free “Lunch and Learn” to teach women about the latest health topics affecting women.

Babak Litkouhi, M.D., Co-Chief, Gynecologic Oncology, John Theurer Cancer Center, will host this month’s discussion focusing on risk factors for gynecological cancers, and steps that can be taken to minimize these risks and detect disease in its early stages. This event will take place on Thursday, January 26 from noon-1:00pm. Patients, caregivers, Hackensack University Medical Center staff and members of the community are all encouraged to attend.

“When gynecologic cancers are found early, treatment is most effective. Through education, we hope we can help women understand factors that may increase their chances of getting a disease, and empower them to take action,” said Dr. Litkouhi.  “This heightened awareness can help save lives in our community.”

Gynecologic cancer is any cancer that starts in a woman's reproductive organs and includes cancers of the cervix, ovaries, uterus, vagina, and vulva. When gynecologic cancers are found early, treatment is most effective. 1

The program will be hosted at John Theurer Cancer Center, 92 Second Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601 in Conference Room 1. The event is complimentary and light refreshments will be served, however, space is limited. Please RSVP by calling 201-996-4287 by Monday, January 23.

“The Maureen Fund is one of many important education programs John Theurer Cancer Center provides for the communities in New Jersey,” said Andrew L. Pecora, M.D., F.A.C.P., C.P.E., Chief Innovations Officer and Professor and Vice President of Cancer Services, John Theurer Cancer Center. “We believe whenever possible, prevention and early detection are crucial in the fight against cancer.”
