MEDICAL CENTER HOSTS BIOMEDICAL ETHICS SYMPOSIUM

The Biomedical Ethics Committee, the Departments of Medical Education, Clinical Education, and Consumer Affairs at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) presented the Twelfth Biomedical Ethics Symposium “Healthcare Reform: Is It Feasible? Is It Morally Defensible? What Would It Look Like?” This program, attended by more than 200, was designed to provide physicians and other healthcare professionals, all levels of hospital staff, patients and their families, public policy advisors, students and members of the community with an assessment of ethical issues surrounding healthcare reform, nationally and in New Jersey. The keynote speakers were Mary Crowley, director, Public Affairs and Communication of the Hastings Center of Garrison, NY and Heather Howard, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. Question and answer sessions followed each speaker.
