The Pastoral Care Department at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) recently hosted its first annual “Candle Lighting Ceremony,” for parents, family members, friends, and healthcare professionals who have lost a child at any age. The worldwide ceremony’s theme was “Light a Candle for all the children who have died … that their light may always shine.” More than 60 members of the community attended the ceremony. Highlights included readings, music, and a reading of children’s names, hot chocolate, and cookies.
“The children will always be with us in our hearts and memories,” said Chaplain Marianela Iribarne of Hasbrouck Heights, director of Pastoral Care at HUMC.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of a loved one may contribute to the Pastoral Care Department through the HUMC Foundation at 201-996-3720. For more information about the medical center, please visit www.humc.com.
