NY Ends Religious Exemptions for Vaccines, Violating Constitutional Rights of Millions

In a disturbing turn of events, the NY House and Senate versions of the bill, A2371 and S2994A, respectively, to strip religious exemptions, passed in rapid succession on Thursday, despite the fact that NY legislators took an oath to uphold the Constitution; namely, the NY Const Art. I, § 11 states that, “No person shall be denied the equal protection of the laws of this state or any subdivision thereof. No person shall, because of race, color, creed or religion, be subjected to any discrimination in his or her civil rights by any other person or by any firm, corporation, or institution, or by the state or any agency or subdivision of the state.”  The new law essentially prohibits healthy unvaccinated children from going to school due to their religious beliefs, and hence violates their parents' Constitutional right to opt out of vaccination; a medical intervention which carries with it the risk of death and disability, and which therefore requires the medical ethical principle of informed consent to be obeyed.  Read more...
