About Us

Alkhan_withTitle1The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine is comprised of three Fellowship-trained and Board Certified experts in the field of Perinatal Medicine & Surgery.  In addition to completing a four-year residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians (also known as MFM specialists or perinatologists) have also completed a three-year Fellowship program approved by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). A MFM subspecialist, as defined and certified by ABOG, is a subspecialist in obstetrics and gynecology who, by virtue of additional education, cares for and/or provides consultation for women with complications of pregnancy. This activity requires advanced knowledge of the obstetrical, medical and surgical complications of pregnancy and their effect on both the mother and the fetus. It also requires expertise in the most current approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of women with complicated pregnancies.

Our specialists provide consultation, diagnosis, and treatment in collaboration with the patient’s private obstetricians. The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at HackensackUMC has an exclusive program.
