Although 80 percent of breast biopsies are not cancerous, often a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. Although most patients with symptoms don’t require a biopsy, when a biopsy is necessary approximately four out of five are benign. Breast Ultrasound

A diagnostic tool, used in combination with mammography, that offers additional information regarding a clinical or radiographic question.

Cyst Aspiration

With ultrasound guidance, a fine needle is inserted into a sac within the breast and fluid is extracted. If necessary, the fluid can be sent for analysis. In most cases, the fluid is determined to be benign, and no further testing is necessary.

Fine Needle Aspiration

With ultrasound guidance, a fine needle is inserted into the breast and cells are removed. The cells are sent to the laboratory for analysis by a pathologist.

Core Biopsy

With ultrasound guidance, a hollow core needle is used to remove tissue from the breast. The tissue is sent to the laboratory for analysis by a pathologist.

Stereotactic Core Biopsy

With mammographic imaging, a hollow core needle with vacuum is used to remove tissue from the breast. The tissue is sent to the laboratory for analysis by a pathologist.

MRI Guided Core Biopsy

With MRI guidance, a hollow core needle with vacuum is used to remove tissue from the breast. The tissue is sent to the laboratory for analysis by a pathologist.
