In October 2008, Hackensack University Medical Center opened a Satellite Emergency Department at Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley, located at 250 Old Hook Road, Westwood, NJ. The Satellite Emergency Department provides quick, easy 24/7 access to board-certified emergency specialists supported by an extensive range of specialists on staff at Hackensack University Medical Center. Patients in need of further care or inpatient admittance will be transferred by emergency vehicle to Hackensack University Medical Center or the hospital of their choice.

The Pediatric Emergency Department at Hackensack University Medical Center has also recently established a dedicated, child-friendly Satellite unit at Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley. Pediatric patients can be seen between the hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. by board certified pediatric physicians.  During the night and early morning, pediatric patients will continue to be cared for by Hackensack University Medical Center’s board-certified emergency medicine physicians. The Satellite unit provides the same pediatric subspecialty call service as Hackensack University Medical Center, including plastic surgery and orthopedics. Any patients requiring admission will be transferred to the Joseph M Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center, or another facility upon request via the specially-designed pediatric emergency vehicles. Diagnostic services such as X-ray, CT scan, and laboratory services are available to patients in both the main and pediatric Satellite units.

In September 2008 HackensackUMC applied to expand the services of HackensackUMC North at PV to a full service hospital. The proposal is a joint venture with Legacy Hospital Partners, Inc. The proposal requests approval to offer the following services:

  • 128 Inpatient Beds including:
    • I.C.U.
    • Medical/Surgical
    • Obstetrics
    • Six full service operating rooms
  • Four Surgical Procedure Rooms
  • Radiology
  • Laboratory
  • Cardiac Cath Lab
  • Other outpatient services to be determined.
