Trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans under 45 and the number one cause of disability for all age groups.
The Jeffrey M. Creamer Trauma Center at Hackensack University Medical Center has been designated by the State of New Jersey and verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level II Trauma Center since 1993. This stands to prove the dedication HackensackUMC has in providing optimal trauma care using a multidisciplinary approach for all critically injured adults and children throughout Bergen County and its surrounding areas. Yearly over 2,000 patients are managed by the Trauma Service at Hackensack, the only trauma center in Bergen County.
The Trauma Team at HackensackUMC is available to handle trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The trauma team is led by Dr. John LoCurto, Chief of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Injury Prevention and includes 6 surgeons which are triple specialized in: trauma, surgical critical care and general surgery. In addition to the trauma surgeons there are dedicated physician specialists, qualified trauma mid-level providers (APN/PA’s), skilled pediatric and adult trauma trained nurses, and other specialized professionals. There is immediate access to resuscitation equipment, special radiology services, operating room facilities, and intensive care units specific to children and adults. The specialized care provided by the Trauma Center at HackensackUMC saves lives, reduces complications, and provides optimal outcomes for injured patients of all ages. The medical center's Helipad is also operational 24 hours a day, allowing Medevac helicopter access to the medical center for direct field transports.
Although Hackensack University Medical Center’s Trauma Service is equipped to meet the needs of the seriously injured at a moments notice, we believe the best way to treat trauma is to prevent it. The Trauma Service offers a multitude of injury prevention programs for all age groups.
