Purpose: This program has been designed to provide physicians and other healthcare professionals, as well as interested members of the lay community, with an overview of the ethical issues faced by parents when their children are not what they expected.
Objectives: At the conclusion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to:
• Identify the ethical issues that arise when children differ from what their parents expected
• Distinguish fixing, improving, and enhancing; and
• Discuss the tension between accepting diversity and sparing children experiences of pain and suffering.
Credits: There is no commercial support for this activity. Speakers have declared that they have nothing to disclose.
