A Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
The Betty Torricelli Institute for Breast Care, located in Hackensack, NJ, has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), who acknowledges our enduring commitment in providing the best breast care treatment in New Jersey and the greater metropolitan area.
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast-imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program, which certifies us to provide premier mammogram treatment.
The breast-imaging services at the Betty Torricelli Institute for Breast Care are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast-imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that the Breast Care Department at Hackensack University Medical Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
HUMC: A Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence
We are pleased to announce that Hackensack University Medical Center has achieved another first! The American College of Radiology (ACR) recognized Hackensack UMC as the first-ever Diagnostic Imaging Centers of Excellence Award recipient, recognizing a distinctive level of excellence in diagnostic imaging. The award was presented to Harry Agress Jr., M.D., FACR, chairman emeritus, Department of Radiology and director of the PET/CT Center and Division of Nuclear Medicine, during ACR’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, May 7. As one of only two centers nationwide to receive this designation, Hackensack UMC stands as one of the most reliable medical centers in New Jersey and the greater northeastern region.
In order to receive the elite distinction as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in all modalities they provide, and in which the ACR offers an accreditation program. Then, an on-site team (comprised of a radiologist, a medical physicist and a radiologic technologist or ACR senior staff member) reviews all aspects of the facility’s operations, including — among other criteria — personnel, equipment specifications, outcomes measurement and quality control systems, safety policies, utilization reviews, facility management and patient outcomes.
This award is consistent with our longstanding commitment towards investing in and making available world-class diagnostic and imaging technologies for all patients who step through our doors. Hackensack UMC continually goes above and beyond.
Disease Specific Certification
The Betty Torricelli Institute for Breast Care has also been recognized as a breast-imaging center of excellence in mammography, ultrasound and stereotactic core biopsy and achieved Disease Specific Certification in breast care.
