Welcome to the Section of Pediatric Neurology at The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack UMC. We are proud to have recently been named in US News and World Report as a Top 50 Children’s Hospital Program.
Advances in technology and breakthroughs in research in the field of Child Neurology have led to a better understanding of the complexities of childhood neurological disorders and have enhanced our ability to treat them more successfully.
We offer a comprehensive Program based at the Medical Center, with Outpatient Offices in the WFAN Imus Pediatric Center, immediately adjacent and attached to the Children’s Hospital. Our Team provides specialized care for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, treating children from birth through their 22nd birthday. When you bring your child to see one of us, you can expect the highest level of expertise, delivered in a compassionate and professional manner by our dedicated staff. We see patients with the full spectrum of neurological disorders, including:

Seizures, epilepsy, and other paroxysmal events

Head trauma, including concussion and sport injuries

Neuromuscular disorders including Erb’s palsy, cerebral palsy, and spasticity

Included as a specialized component of our Program are the Neuro-Oncology Program and Neurocutanous Disorders Program, which are based in the Tomorrows Children’s Institute. This part of our Practice provides care for children with:

Brain and Spinal Cord Tumors

Neurologic complications of Pediatric Cancer and its treatment

Neurocutaneous disorders such as neurofibromatosis and tuberous sclerosis (we are recognized as a referral Center by Neurofibromatosis Mid-Atlantic and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance)
Our Pediatric Neurology Program offers the assessment, evaluation and treatment of children with epilepsy. We can arrange for a variety of tests, including routine EEG, ambulatory EEG, and Inpatient Video EEG. Medical, dietary, and surgical options for the treatment of seizures are all available. We work closely with the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and the Pediatric Neurosurgeons to provide the most modern comprehensive medical care for your child.

What to expect
A thorough history and physical is completed at the initial visit. Based upon the outcome of that evaluation, laboratory tests, imaging studies (CT and MRI scans), EEG or Video EEG, and metabolic and genetic testing may be requested. We may also request Consults other members of the JMSCH Team, such as Pediatric Neurosurgery, Genetics, Dermatology, etc…
