The members of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Hackensack University Medical Center are all members of the Department of Internal Medicine. Their mission is to provide quality care by assisting in the diagnosis or management of conditions caused by an infection, such as bacteria, virus, fungus or parasite. They generally have 5 or 6 additional years of training after the completion of medical school, and are board certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases. Some infectious diseases physicians may specialize in the specific treatment areas such as stem cell transplant oncology, or viral hepatitis. Alternatively, infectious diseases specialists may be trained in pediatrics, and they are members of the Department of Pediatrics.
Also under the umbrella of Infectious Diseases are the Hepatitis Treatment Center, AIDS Outreach Program, and Infection Control Department.
Steven Sperber, M.D. is Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Internal Medicine.
