Promoting Ethical Research at HackensackUMC

HackensackUMC is committed to the responsible conduct of research involving human subjects by supporting standards of excellence and trustworthiness through the educational and regulatory activities of the Research Integrity Office (RIO) and the HackensackUMC Institutional Review Board (HIRB).

The Research Integrity Office is the HackensackUMC division that supports ethical and responsible research practices in biomedical and behavioral research involving human subjects. The RIO is regulated by the Federal Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP). In turn, the RIO oversees the investigator training, research oversight, and technical support needed for the HackensackUMC IRB electronic submission system known as eIRB

The HackensackUMC IRB is the regulatory arm of the Research Integrity Office and is responsible for providing guidance and oversight. The Hackensack IRB provides direction to investigative teams who are engaged in research activities with the medical center in order to maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
