Welcome to Hackensack University Medical Center’s Research website. Opened in the year 2000, The David & Alice Jurist Institute for Research has significantly expanded since to strengthen and support various HackensackUMC research initiatives at both clinical and basic/translational levels. 

Our mission is to guide, assist, and support the HackensackUMC community in the development and conduct of innovative research initiatives from conception to publication.  Today, The David and Alice Jurist Institute for Research is home to the Department of Research’s administrative offices, its scientist’s research laboratories, and the Department of Biological Resources (DBR).   

Hackensack University Medical Center is New Jersey’s top independent hospital recipient of NIH research funds.  We have 11 basic and translational scientists working on 14 federally funded grants.  We have over 485 open clinical trials with external sponsors.  Hackensack University Medical Center is the only hospital in New Jersey to receive the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. 

Recognizing that research development is central to HackensackUMC’s overall mission, our intention is to build a research infrastructure that can support and help develop all types of research.  It gives me great pleasure to introduce the creation of several offices within the Department of Research. I invite you to explore and take advantage of the resources that we have to offer on the Research website and in person.
