About Us

The Department of Biological Resources (DBR) is charged with furnishing humane care for non-human vertebrate animals used in research, in accordance with Animal Welfare Act and OPRR-PHS Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. We strive to facilitate the research efforts of scientists with regard to procurement, initiation, and implementation of animal research studies, and to comply with the standards of all regulatory and accrediting agencies and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The DBR institutes and improves Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of the daily operation, including but not limited to administration, husbandry, safety, colony maintenance, animal health program, equipment operation, quality control, biological monitoring, and training.
