The Sponsored Programs Office (SPO) is committed to providing outstanding administrative, informational, and educational support to Hackensack University Medical Center’s research community. The SPO supports HackensackUMC investigators and staff with all aspects of pre-award grant proposal development. The Sponsored Programs Manager is responsible for reviewing all research grant applications and submitting them to the federal (NIH, DOD, CDC, AHRQ) or private (foundations, professional associations, industry sponsors) funding agencies. The Sponsored Programs Manager identifies grant funding opportunities for HackensackUMC investigators and assures that submitted proposals are in compliance with HackensackUMC policies, sponsor guidelines, and federal regulations. The Sponsored Programs Manager also reviews research grant budgets to ensure that award costs are calculated correctly. If funded, Sponsored Programs Manager is responsible for overseeing the post-award administration process. The Sponsored Programs Manager also provides ongoing education and training for extramural research.
RESEARCH GRANT SUBMISSION PROCESS
Applicants are encouraged to contact the Sponsored Programs Manager as soon as he/she has decided to apply for a research grant. The Sponsored Program Manager will assist the Investigator with application instructions, forms, and internal/external submission deadlines. The final proposal will be reviewed and approved for accuracy and completeness. In order to ensure timely submission of your application to the granting agency, final grant documents must be submitted to the Sponsored Programs Manager at least one week prior to the submission deadline date. The Sponsored Programs Manger will also be responsible for submitting Just-in-Time (JIT) documents, Progress Reports, No-cost Extensions, Close-out reports.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
Infoed- The Department of Research currently subscribes to Infoed SMARTS , which consists of a searchable database for funding opportunities. Researchers can either contact the Sponsored Programs Manager to find appropriate funding opportunities for them or have the option of being signed up for Infoed SMARTS, an email alert system which notifies investigators directly of relevant funding opportunities based on their research interests.
