Stevens Institute of Technology and Hackensack University Medical Center Partner on Clinical Education

Hoboken, N.J. – Through an affiliation agreement signed on June 20, 2012, Stevens Institute of Technology and HackensackUMC have partnered to introduce joint biomedical educational programs that provide undergraduate and graduate students with advanced clinical education experience. Under the leadership of Stevens faculty and HackensackUMC staff, certain Stevens’ courses and other educational activities will be held at the hospital and ambulatory care facilities operated by HackensackUMC.
“We are very excited to continue our successful partnership with Stevens Institute of Technology,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of HackensackUMC. “HackensackUMC continues on its mission of becoming a world-class medical, research and academic institution, and this affiliation with a prestigious university such as Stevens is another step toward realizing our strategic goals.”
“This relationship with HackensackUMC will further enhance Stevens’ growing healthcare and medical research programs by giving students the opportunity to experience an actual, working clinical setting,” said Dr. George Korfiatis, provost and university vice president at Stevens.
“We are proud to be working with Stevens to continue to support our mission to deliver exemplary education to future members of the health professions,” said Dr. Ihor Sawczuk, executive vice president, chief medical officer and chief academic officer at HackensackUMC.
Through the agreement, Stevens and HackensackUMC will also continue collaborative clinical research programs in effect since 2009, as well as offer academic appointments at Stevens to HackensackUMC clinical and administrative staff and hospital appointments at HackensackUMC to Stevens faculty members.
