The fungus that turns ants into ZOMBIES: Fungal infection causes insects' jaws to clamp in a 'death grip,' trapping them on twigs until they die

Zombies may not be a concern to humanity outside of our nightmares, but for many insects, the threat is very real.  A new study has shed light on a horrifying fungal infection that colonizes the bodies of carpenter ants, ridding them of free will and ultimately leading to death – when it consumes the body from the inside out.  Unlike the traditional view of zombification, however, the fungus doesn’t take over their brains.
