Thought Leaders Discuss New Strategies in Headache Management at HackensackUMC’s Headache Symposium

Thought leaders from a wide array of specialties including emergency medicine, neurology, internal medicine, otolaryngology, and dental came together to discuss new strategies in headache management at the Hekemian Conference Center at Hackensack University Medical Center. The event, hosted by the HackensackUMC Department of Neurology/Neuroscience Institute, was designed to provide physicians and allied healthcare professionals with the latest diagnostic techniques, best practices, and cutting edge treatments for the management of chronic headaches.
“The most compelling aspect of the symposium was that it highlighted the challenges, prevalence and multiple arenas of treating chronic and severe headaches,” said Sharad Sahu, M.D., director of Physician Affairs. “Patients seek solutions in settings that range from a dental office to an emergency room.”
Dr. Sahu said the symposium provided an opportunity for doctors and dentists from various disciplines to share treatment options. Given the loss of worker productivity and the healthcare expenditure associated with this condition, Dr. Sahu said a good next step would be to establish a coordinated treatment effort.
The Headache Management Symposium, attended by more than 100 physicians and healthcare providers, was made possible through a generous donation from Susan and Bernard Leifer. Bernard Leifer is president and CEO of SG Companies, and is a member of the HackensackUMC Advisory Board of Directors. Mr. and Mrs. Leifer were presented with a commemorative plaque as a token of gratitude for their generosity.
