HackensackUMC and LHP Hospital Partners ceremoniously began the project to renovate the future home of HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley. More than 200 people, including elected officials and residents attended the event. When complete, the Pascack and Northern Valley regions’ new community hospital will extend HackensackUMC’s world-class healthcare network and create hundreds of well-paying local jobs.
“The long-awaited project to re-open this community hospital is finally underway,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer, HackensackUMC. “It took years of dedication and perseverance to reach this point. But, the HackensackUMC team and our partner, LHP along with local residents and elected officials worked together to prove that impossible really is, in fact, just an opinion.”
The renovation project will create a full-service, acute-care community hospital, providing the same nationally recognized quality care for which HackensackUMC is known. HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley will feature all-private patient rooms, a state-of-the-art obstetrical unit and an intensive/critical care unit. Surgical capabilities will feature five operating rooms and one special procedure room, in addition to a new cardiac catheterization lab.
This inpatient hospital will act as an anchor to many in-demand, outpatient services such as radiology, women’s health and same-day surgery. HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley is a joint venture between HackensackUMC and LHP Hospital Group, Inc.
“We’re excited about the Pascack Valley opportunity and to be a part of the Westwood Community,” said Dan Moen, chief executive officer, LHP Hospital Group, Inc. “We are proud to be HackensackUMC’s partner in opening this hospital. We thank community leaders and the thousands of people who have been involved in the effort to re-open the hospital.”
After Pascack Valley Hospital closed in 2007, HackensackUMC immediately took over the Mobile Intensive Care Units and later opened a Satellite Emergency Department to provide quality and convenient emergency care for the Pascack and Northern Valley regions.
“When Pascack Valley closed its doors, it was abundantly clear there was a void in healthcare,” said John Birkner, mayor of Westwood. “We had an obligation to meet the needs of our community and a responsibility to ensure that our neighbors were safe. HackensackUMC stepped up with a plan. Good things come to those who wait and this is a good thing coming our way, thanks to HackensackUMC.”
HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley is scheduled to open in 2013.
