What You Need to Know Before Swimming in a Public Pool or Hot Tub

Hotel pools and hot tubs have become notorious for spreading a diarrheal disease caused by microscopic parasites known as Cryptosporidium, dubbed “Crypto”.  Cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever and dehydration are all symptoms of Crypto, usually caused by swallowing pool water containing Crypto bacteria.  Between 2009 and 2010 there were 24 outbreaks; between 2011 and 2012, there were 90, resulting from swimming in recreational waters such as pools; half of the bacterial culprits found in the water were Crypto.  Read more...
