Wyatt Imus' Veggie Burger

Wyatt came up with this recipe when he was 10 years old. It’s a family favorite.

We usually eat it with raw organic sauerkraut, horseradish mustard and ketchup.


Ingredients for Veggie Burger:

½ organic yellow onion diced

3 cloves of  organic garlic minced

1 ½ packages of organic tempeh

a quantity of breadcrumbs that’s equal to 3 slices of bread or put 3 slices of bread in cuisinart

½ organic tomato shredded

organic veggie fed cage free eggs

½ tsp. of sea salt

1/2tsp. of cayenne


Ingredients for Marinade:

½ organic yellow onion diced

3 organic garlic cloves minced

1 TBS. virgin organic cold pressed olive oil

1 TBS. organic balsamic vinegar

1 TBS. organic rice vinegar

1 TBS. jalapeno juice

1 TBS. organic red wine vinegar


Preparation:  pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

1.  Prepare the marinade

2.  Cut the whole block of tempeh up into 15-20 rectangular pieces

3.  Pour the marinade into a pan about medium high heat and begin to cook with all the pieces of tempeh

4.  Constantly move the tempeh around while it’s cooking until you start to see it get brown

5.  Once it’s brown remove it from pan without the sautee and let it sit while you prepare the tomato, garlic and rest of the onion.

6.  Cook the tomato, onion, garlic with the tempeh until you can see the tomato turn color then add the sea salt and cayenne

7.  Now add the 2 eggs and mix very well so that they don’t begin to cook. You want the eggs to mix in with the tempeh. Once it

is mixed in begin to mash very well until you get batter like substance. Once that’s done turn off stove and put in bowl with bread crumbs.

8.  Mix in all the bread crumbs and form your slider size patties and put on cookie sheet.

9.  Bake in oven at 350 degrees. Cook on one side for 15 minutes and other side for 20 minutes.


Take out of oven and they are ready to serve.  They should have a brownish orange color.

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 35 minutes


Health benefits:

Tempeh: as opposed to many other soy foods tempeh is fermented and made from whole soybeans.

Therefore, this is a healthy form of soy to eat; its’ high fiber and enzyme content is rich and healthy for the digestive tract too.

Tempeh is naturally low in sodium, high in protein and the right protein for vegetarians, vegan and diabetics. The protein and

fiber can prevent high blood sugar levels and keep blood sugar levels under control. And the beauty of it being fermented is that

it’s full of healthy probiotics.
