Yale study: Opioids killing thousands of children, teens

Children and teenagers are dying from opioid drugs at triple the rates of two decades ago, with almost 9,000 deaths recorded, according to a Yale School of Medicine study published in JAMA Network Open.  The new findings greatly increase the annual estimates of how many young people die from overdoses of the drugs, from 30 in a study focusing only on hospitalizations, to nearly 500, according to a news release. The new study was based on mortality data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention between 1999 and 2016.  Read more....
